In Solidarity with Mourning Mothers of Iran (Mothers of Laleh Park)
solidarity with The open letter to:
Honorable Dr. Ahmed Shaheed,
The esteemed United Nations’ Special Rapporteur For Human Rights in Iran
Request: Protesting against the harassment, abuse, and detention of Mothers of Laleh Park on baseless grounds.
Suppression and overt violation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran continues. We are witnessing a new wave of harassments, abuse, false accusations, subpoenas, interrogations, detentions, and implementations of court orders against political and civic activists, the families of those killed, political prisoners, and, particularly, Mothers of Laleh Park.
To prevent violence in any form, and to seek and establish justice, Mothers of Laleh Park diligently pursue the following three demands: Abolishment of capital punishment, Releasing the political -idealogical prisoners and Public and fair trial and punishment of instigators and perpetrators of the crimes and murders committed in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
As family members of those killed, injured, and those in political prisons, we have been repeatedly subjected to harassment and persecutions directly or indirectly, through threats, or bribery, for wanting to pursue our human rights. Therefore, we wish to declare that our support of these demands does not constitute a crime, rather, those individuals and organizations that use frivolous and unlawful accusations to persecute and harass others commit crime; such ongoing actions are clear and unequivocal manifestation of injustice in our country, Iran.
Mr. Ahmed Shaheed!
As of now, the following individuals have been detained, tried, put on trial, and convicted under this very case: Jila Karamzadeh Makvandi, Leila Seyfollahi, Fatemeh Rastegar Nasab, Elham Ahsani, Akram Neghabi and her daughter Elnaz Zeinali (Akram’s son, Saeed Zinali, was kidnapped from his house on July 14, 1999 and, so far, his family does not know if he is dead or alive.) Jila Mahdavian and her daughter Maryam Najafi (Jila is the mother of Hesam Tarmasi; Hesam was arrested two months following the election of 2009. He spent a year in prison and two months after being released, unknown individuals attacked and injured him by knife, and, since that time, he has been afflicted with a dangerous liver disease.) Parvaneh Maddah Raad, Omolbanin Ebrahimi, Mansoureh Behkish, Hakimeh Shokri, Neda Mostaghimi, Mehdi Ramezani, and Seyed Mohammad Ebrahimi.
Some of the above mentioned individuals spent their temporary detention time in solitary confinements. They were subjected to repeated interrogations during multiple hours, and were deprived of their basic right of a prisoner, like the right to call the family, access to an attorney etc.
Of the above-mentioned individuals, Jila Karamzadeh Makvandi has been in Evin prison since December 27, 2011, and Seyed Mohammad Ebrahimi has been a prisoner of Evin prison since December 13, 2010. Jila has been sentenced to four years of prison terms, two years of actual and two years of suspended prison, and Mohammad has been sentenced to five years of actual prison.
Three other persons, named Hakimeh Shokri, Neda Mostaghimi, and Mehdi Ramezani (the father of Ramin Ramezani who was killed in 2009) have each been sentenced to three years of actual prison terms in the court of appeals. Of the three, Hakimeh Shokri introduced herself to the Evin prison on monday, 22th of October 2012 to run the prison sentence, and she was immediately arrested. Two other individuals are in danger of being arrested every second in accordance with the court rulings. Another individual, Mansoureh Behkish (a family member of those killed during the 1980’s) has been sentenced to four years of prison, six months of actual and three and a half years of suspended prison time. Prior to this, she was fired from her job and her passport has been confiscated in the airport since December of 2010. Here, too, there is imminent danger of her arrest in observance of the court order.
You are appointed as The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran. Therefore, as seekers of judicial fairness and justice in our country, Iran, we are asking you to voice your objections to the overt violations of human rights in Iran and to ask the Islamic Republic to immediately drop these unlawful charges and sentences and to stop the harassment of the above mentioned individuals and other defendants in this case.

In Solidarity with Mourning Mothers of Iran (Mothers of Laleh Park)

This month’s event is in solidarity with Teacher,s in prison

With the beginning of the academic year, let’s be the voice of the sufferings of Iranian teachers in prison
Although the dimensions of human rights violation in Iran is day by day increasing and the list of different kinds of this violation is very long,  yet the violation of teachers' rights , due to the important role they have to make up the future of the society, seems to be more dangerous for this country.
Increasing the intensity and the expansion of violence against teachers imposed by the security and judicial organizations and trying to cover up their trade and economic problems and show up their trade activities as threats to the society, as well as illegal confrontations with teachers' trade unions, have caused considerable worries which require serious attention by educational and human rights organizations.
In this regard, with the beginning of the educational year in Iran and on the threshold of the Teachers' Day on October 5th, it seems necessary to pay sole attention to the violation of teachers' rights specially the evident violation of human rights against the civil and trade activists in this field.
Concerning the importance of this fact and with great respect to Farzad Kamangar, the teacher who was arrested in 2006 and executed in 2010, here we just mention the detentions of teachers since 2009. Beside these detentions, hundreds of verdicts of dismissal, exile, official deprivation after trade demonstrations in 2006 and 2007 were issued by the Disciplinary Violations Board of Ministry of Education in different provinces in Iran and this process continues to this very moment. It must also be mentioned that trade activities of teachers have been illegally interrupted throughout the country.
Moreover, the economic and trade problems of  the teachers in Iran have been increased so much that not only the promised wage raise has not been performed but by issuing various circulars, the wages  have also been reduced in different cities.
Pressures due to the verdicts of dismissal, imprisonment and even execution have been imposed on teachers in spite of the fact that according to the Articles 26 and 27 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, membership in different religious, trade and political communities have been considered as a basic right for Iranian people and the international human rights conventions which Iranian government has joined, also insist on it.
But it seems that governmental officials in Iran do not feel responsible for their international commitments as well as the national laws of their own country, because demanding the basic rights and even appointments with Parliament deputies have led to violent confrontations between the activists and the security and the judicial officials who have shown up the teachers' legitimate demands as threats to the society and have opened files for them on these cases in the Islamic Revolutionary Court.
Therefore, on the threshold of the academic year in Iran and insisting on the importance of the national and international commitments for which the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran is responsible and emphasizing the reasonable demands of the teachers, we invite all civil activists in the world to be the voice of the Iranian teachers' pains and sufferings specially the pains and sufferings of those who are now in the prisons of Iran. To manifest these violated rights to the world, we demand all human rights activists to act in any possible way.
