In one voice and with solidarity with Mourning Mothers of Iran (Park
Laleh)
We, the supporters of Mothers of Laleh Park,
reaffirm our solidarity with the Mourning Mothers of
Iran (Park Laleh)o to commemorate the third anniversary f their movement.
We have been supporting those mothers who
were persistently asking for their rightful demands and
civil rights in the past three years. Here
again we repeat their voice:
“Three years is passed since the beginning
of the protest movement in 2009 in Iran. The streets were full of people who
were asking for their civil and democratic rights. But the Government’s response
to this was arrest, imprisonment, torture and execution. The mourning mothers and families of those executed,
killed or put in prison wore black in protest against violation of human rights
of their children and asked for those who were responsible for the atrocities
on the streets and in prisons to be brought to justice.
“Since 26 June 2009, the mourning mothers
gather in Laleh Park in Tehran every Saturday with the photos of their children
and lit up candles and demand justice. They have said that they carry out their
protest until the day justice is done. Since then, their supporters formed
groups in other cities in Iran and across the world and carried out similar
protests, and around 90 of mourning mothers and their supports have been
harassed and persecuted by the brutal police. As the arrests and harassments
escalated so did the support for the Mourning Mothers. Mothers and their
supporters gathered in front of the Evin prison, courts of justice and other
places like parks, and insisted for justice to be done. They also used any
peaceful means of protests to send their message across to the authorities.
“We are a group of mothers and families of
those who have lost their lives or suffered during the Islamic regime of Iran
who demand the followings:
- Abolition of capital punishment
- Unconditional release of all political prisoners
- Identification, detention and punishment of those who had committed crimes since the formation of Islamic regime in Iran.
“We campaign for a safe and secure society
free from war, violence, discrimination and degradation. We support all
peaceful movements for equality and against discrimination. We ask all other
mothers or witnesses to the Government’s cruelty to join us in solidarity and
write to the human rights organisations and add to our voice in other countries
in order to raise the public awareness.
To prevent the repeat of history, we have
left our differences behind us and together with families of all those who have
suffered during this regime in the past 33 years, we pursue our three main
demands and will not back off until we achieve them.
Mothers of Laleh Park, 26 June 2012”
